I, Florence Minnie Goddard, of 21, Benson Road, Forest Hill, London, S.E.23, British. Subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows :—

My invention consists of a razor having a triangular blade to provide three cutting edges the corners or angles of the blade being curved or rounded or otherwise shaped, having one or more openings to register with the upper part. The upper part has a central spindle boss or collar which may be grooved and or shaped. The lower part is to fit on the spindle, boss or collar and is pressed against the upper part by the cup shaped end of the handle which screws on to the spindle of the upper part and is arranged to act as a guard and or holder for the blade. In a modification, the handle carries a screwed spindle which screws into the upper part. When the handle is in position the upper and lower parts with the blade inserted between are clamped together.

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION.
Improvements in and relating to Razors and Bazor Blades.

I, Florence Minnie Goddard, British Subject, of 21, Benson Road, Forest Hill, London, S.E.23, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:—

The present invention relates to razors of the safety type in which a thin flat blade is held between guard and cover plates having more than two and preferably three cutting edges which are simultaneously held in position for use.

The chief object of the present invention is to provide a safety razor of the type referred to having improved means for maintaining each or all the cutting edges of the blade in the correct position for use. A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of razor blade for use with the razor of the present invention.

It has previously been proposed to provide safety razors having a blade, a guard and a cover plate each of triangular form and to provide the cover, plate with a single triangular boss or with a single cylindrical boss having two diametrically opposite projections for engagement with correspondingly shaped holes in the guard and blade.

As distinct from this there is provided according to the present invention a razor of the type referred to having a substantially cylindrical boss or projection which is grooved or recessed associated either with the guard plate or with the cover plate for maintaining or holding the cutting edges of the blade in correct postion for use and for facilitating attachment of a razor handle and clamping of the blade.

Conveniently the cover plate may be provided substantially centrally thereof with the aforesaid cylindrical boss or projection which is adapted for cooperation with apertures of similar form in the blade and guard plate.

In a preferred form of the invention the improved razor is so constructed as to provide three cutting edges simultaneously held in position for use and which may be used alternately but the invention may be applied with advantage to razors providing any other number of cutting edges simultaneously adjusted for use.

The invention also consists in the improved thin flat blade for use with the improved razor as defined herein.

In order that the present invention may be more clearly understood and readily carried into effect reference may now be had to the accompanying drawings in which:—

Figure 1 is a view partly in section of the razor according to the present invention ;

Figure 2 is a plan view of the cover plate of a razor according to the present invention ;

Figure 3 is a plan view of a razor blade according to the present invention ; and

Figure 4 is a plan view of the guard plate of a razor according to the present invention.

As shown in the drawings the improved razor comprises four main parts namely a substantially flat cover plate 1, a thin flat blade 2, a substantially flat guard plate 3 provided in the usual manner with spaced teeth 3a and a handle 4 and is so constructed as to provide three cutting edges. For this purpose the cover plate 1 blade 2 and guard plate 3 are made or constructed to have a triangular shape or form with the angular corners of some or all of the elements especially the blade rounded or curved.

According to the present invention the cover plate 1 is provided with a single projection or the like 5 of generally cylindrical form—preferably located substantially centrally thereof—for cooperation with an aperture 6 in the blade 2 and with an aperture 7 in the guard plate 3, and the said projection and apertures are shaped or formed by being provided with grooves or recesses 8 in such a manner, that the cutting edge or edges of the blade is/are maintained or held in correct position for use at all times. Conveniently the projection or the like 5 is also provided with a screw threaded portion 9 to facilitate attachment of the razor handle 4 and clamping of the blade when the parts are assembled as shown in Figure 1 and if desired the upper end of the handle 4 may be formed to provide a cup-shaped recess to surround and hide the projection 5 thereby enhancing the appearance of the instrument.

If desired the adjusted position of one cutting edge in the case, of a razor having a plurality of cutting edges may be different from the others so that for instance the closeness of the shave obtained depends upon the edge used.

It will be appreciated that various changes may be made in the form of the razor illustrated without departing from the present invention for instance instead of the projection 5 being associated with the cover plate it may if desired be associated with the guard plate 3. Furthermore the handle 4 may be adapted to be screwed into the cover plate instead of vice versa as shown.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:—

1. A safety razor of the type referred to having a substantially cylindrical projection or boss which is grooved or recessed associated either with the guard plate or with the cover plate for maintaining or holding the cutting edges of the blade in correct position for use and for facilitating attachment of a razor handle and clamping of the blade.

2. A safety razor as claimed in claim 1 made of triangular form and adapted for use with a triangular blade providing three cutting edges.

3. A safety razor as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 in which a single projection boss or the like is formed integrally with the cover plate and is located substantially centrally thereof substantially as and for the purpose specified.

4. A safety razor as claimed in any one or more of the preceding claiming clauses in which said projection or boss is adapted to take into a cup-like formation upon the razor handle when the razor parts are assembled.

5. For use with a safety razor as claimed in any of the preceding claims a blade having a single aperture shaped for exact registration with the periphery of said projection so that when assembled with the razor its cutting edges are maintained in correct position for use.

6. A thin flat blade for a safety razor substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.

7. A Safety razor substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
