I, William Petrie Fraser, of Assembly Works, Middle Lane, Hornsey, London N. 8, a British subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows:—
The present invention relates to safety razors and the chief object is to provide a device of this kind which can be used with great facility and safety for shaving re-entrant curved portions of the body, such for example as beneath the arms.
In a safety razor according to the present invention the serrated guard, the blade and the blade retaining clamp are made of circular or other similar closed curved shape which presents no angular corners, and the said guard and clamp are preferably relatively steeply domed.
The guard, retaining clamp and a suitable handle may be made of any convenient material, preferably of one of the light-weight casein products such for example as that known as Erinoid.
In one contemplated constructional form a circular domed retaining clamp is provided with a circular boss on its inner side the latter being centrally bored for a portion of its length, and internally screw-threaded. The serrated guard is similarly domed and is provided with a central circular boss on its inner side. This guard is centrally recessed from its outer face inwards for a certain distance this recess being of a diameter to receive the boss on the clamp, and the recess is then continued in a bore of less diameter to the inner face of the boss on the guard the latter bore being of a diameter to pass over a screw-threaded stub projecting from the end of a suitable handle. The blade is annular and preferably domed, its central opening being of a diameter to pass over the boss on the clamp. To assemble the razor the blade is mounted on the boss of the inner side of the clamp, the said boss inserted into the recess in the outer face of the guard, and the screw-threaded stub on the handle then passed through the small bore from the inner side of the guard, and screwed into the threaded bore in the boss on the clamp.

I, William Petrie Fraser of Assembly Works, Middle Lane, Hornsey, London N. 8, a British subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:—
The present invention relates to safety razors and the chief object is to provide a device of this kind which can be used with great facility and safety for shaving re-entrant curved portions of the body, such for example as beneath the arms. It relates more particularly to a safety razor wherein the usual serrated guard, the blade, and the blade retaining clamp are of closed curved shape, such for example as circular.
A safety razor of this kind has been proposed having a circular domed blade retaining clamp a circular annular blade and a circular guard which is flat except at the serrated periphery where the serrations or teeth are curved down as is usual in various kinds of safety razor.
To attain the objects of the present invention the blade retaining clamp is relatively steeply domed in relation to its diameter, which is relatively small, so as to constitute an efficient guide for the razor in dealing with surfaces of a high degree of concavity; and in order that the blade edge may be held firmly in a relatively steeply domed condition, to present a suitably directed cutting edge, the guard is also relatively steeply domed throughout the whole or substantially the whole of its area in contact with the blade.
The guard, the clamp, and a suitable handle may be made of any convenient material. Thus for example the said guard and clamp may be made of metal, and a suitable handle of lighter weight material may be provided. Or, any or all of these elements may be made of one of the known light-weight casein products.
A constructional form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Referring now to these drawings, a circular domed retaining clamp
To assemble the razor, the blade is mounted on the boss
By the provision of the relatively steeply domed guard and clamp a very efficient razor is provided for the particular purpose mentioned.
In place of the domed blade, a flat annular blade may if desired be used, and it will of course be brought to the desired cutting position by clamping between the domed guard and the domed clamp.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:—
1). A safety razor wherein the guard and the retaining clamp are of circular or other similar closed curve shape, and wherein the guard and clamp are relatively steeply domed, the former throughout the whole or substantially the whole of its area in contact with the blade, substantially as described.
2). A safety razor according to claim 1, wherein the blade is of annular shape and is domed similarly to the guard.
3). A safety razor according to claim 1, constructed substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Dated this 17th day of January, 1931.
