PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION. Improvements in or Relating to Safety Razors

I, Joe Edgar Bevis, 16, Middleton Road, Moordown, Bournemouth, England, British Subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows:—

This invention relates to safety razors such as the well known Gillette razor (Reg. Trade Mark) comprizing a blade set in a holder incorporating a guard element for the blade, which holder is mounted upon one end of a handle the direction of length of which is transverse to the direction of length of the blade in the holder.

The object of this invention is to provide in one holder and with one blade two types of shaving, on the one side of the new holder the common set of blade is found as in all standard pattern safety razors but op the other side the set of the blade is such as to make it to all intents and purposes an open razor, thus providing a combination of shaving efficiency to be obtained merely by twisting the razor when in use.

This object is obtained in the following manner. The guard plate remains as in standard pattern razors. The clamping plate on the one side remains as in standard pattern razors but on the other side the main portion is removed leaving only two ends sufficient to clamp and cover the corners of the blade, this allows the blade to lift considerably from the guard plate thus forming an open razor which still remains safe owing to the corners being covered.

The handle of the new razor will also take a new form which will enable practically the whole weight of the head to be concentrated on the beard and providing a flexibility which enhances the comfort and safety of shaving.

This object is obtained by having a hollow handle the grip being slit from end to end in appropriate proportions thus forming a sensitive grip with a flexibility and resilience inwards which ensures the razor adapting itself to the contours of the face. The handle itself will be made from light composition and could if required be adapted to any type of razor.

I, Joe Edgar Bevis, 16, Middleton Road, Moordown, Bournemouth, British Subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:—

The object of this invention is to provide an improved safety razor of the type in which in one holder and with one blade two types of shaving, on the one side of the new holder the common set of blade is found as in all standard pattern safety razors of the Gillette (registered trade mark) type, but on the other side the set of blade is such as to make it to all intents and purposes an open razor, thus providing a combination of shaving efficiency to be obtained merely by twisting the razor when in use.

According to my invention:—The guard plate remains as in the standard pattern razors. The clamping plate on the one side remains as in the standard pattern razors but on the other side the main portion is removed leaving only two ends sufficient to clamp and cover the corners of the blade, this allows the blade to lift considerably from the guard plate thus forming an open razor with a curved blade the corners being covered.

The handle of the new razor will also take a new form which enables practically the whole weight of the head to be concentrated on the beard and providing a flexibility which enhances the comfort and ensures safety of shaving on the open side, and this handle forms the subject matter of my co-pending application, No, 109, 3–1–1942 (Serial No. 543,801).

This object is obtained by having a hollow handle, the grip being slit from end to end in appropriate proportions thus forming a sensitive grip with a flexibility and resilience inwards, which absorbs human error and careless use. The handle itself will be made from a light composition of any known synthetic resin.

The invention will now be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings of which:—

Figure 1 is a plan of the guard plate.

Figure 2 is an inverted view in perspective of the clamping plate.

Figure 3 is the razor holder in end elevation with handle slit in appropriate proportions as shown at 1.

The guard plate 2, Fig. 1, remains as in standard pattern Razors.

The clamping plate 3, Fig. 2, on one side 4 remains as in the standard pattern razors but on the other side 5, the main portion is removed leaving only two ends 6 sufficient to clamp and cover the corners of the blade, this allows the blade to lift considerably from the guard plate thus forming an open razor with a curved blade the corners being covered.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:—

1. A safety razor of the type hereinbefore referred to having in it a guard plate of the standard pattern and a clamping plate which allows the blade to have two different sets, one side of the plate being straight and the other side being curved leaving only the two ends to clamp the blade.

2. A safety razor substantially as described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
