PATENT SPECIFICATION
Convention Date (United States of America): Nov. 23, 1945. Application Date (in United Kingdom): Nov. 22, 1946. No. 34714/46. Complete Specification Accepted: March 3, 1949.

619,119

I, Samuel Briskman, a citizen of the United States of America, of 102 Prince Street, in the City, County and State of New York, United States of America, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement :—

This invention is an improved novel razor for use by ladies to facilitate underarm shaving.

According to the present invention, a safety razor is provided having a handle formed of two separable handle sections, interfitting means connecting the meeting ends of the handle sections together, a longitudinally curved cutting head at one end of said handle, said cutting head including a central threaded stud and blade positioning posts extending outwardly from the concave side of said head, a curved guard plate complemental to the shape of the head having post and stud apertures therein, and a nut threaded to said stud adapted to draw the guard plate and head into clamping engagement with a razor blade disposed therebetween, wherein the interfitting means include a socket on one handle section adapted to frictionally retain a tongue on the other handle section.

The razor which is simple and inexpensive, includes easily assembled parts which may be neatly packed in a box.

In the accompanying drawings :—

Figure 1 is a view of the razor in use.

Figure 2 is a top plan view.

Figure 3 is a side view.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view on line 4—4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view on line 5—5 of Figure 3.

Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view on line 6—6 of Figure 2.

The numeral 10 indicates a razor in accordance with my invention, and includes an elongated handle 11 in separable sections 12 and 13 having an alined rib 14 extending the length thereof. The sections 12 and 13 are secured together by a reduced tapered stem 15 on section 12 fitting into a tapered socket 16 in section 13. The tongue 15 has a central rib 15a which enters a channel 17 in socket 16 to assume correct alinement of the sections when fitted together.

Integral with the free end of section 13 is a longitudinally curved head 18, offset with respect to the handle with the concave side facing in the same way as rib 14. In side elevation, the handle and head resemble a spoon as best illustrated in Figure 3. The handle 11 and head 18 are preferably constructed of plastic but may be made of metal.

Rigidly secured to the head 18 and extending from the concave side thereof is a threaded metal stud 19 having an enlarged head 20. Equidistantly spaced from the stud at opposite sides thereof are alined blade positioning posts 2121 integral with the head.

Cooperating with head 18 for clamping a double-edge blade 22 in place is a curved guard plate 23, preferably of rustproof metal. The guard plate 23 includes a body 24 having spaced guard fingers 25 along its opposed longitudinal edges. Slots 2626 are provided in body 24 for the passage of the posts 2121. Between slots 2626 is a thumb nut 27 which is swivelled upon the body so as to be rotatable. The nut 27 extends outwardly from the concave side of the guard plate while the convex side of the plate fits against the blade 22. The open end of the nut 27 registers with an aperture 28 in the guard plate for stud 19. The edge of this aperture fits into a circumferential groove on the nut, holding it but allowing it to be turned. When the nut 27 is screwed tight upon stud 19, the head 18 and guard plate 23 will be drawn together to bend the blade 22 and clamp the same therebetween. The cutting edges of blade 22 are disposed adjacent the guard fingers 25.

In Figure 1, I have illustrated the razor 10 held by one hand grasping handle 11 while the head is in shaving position within the armpit. The head 18 fits the armpit, so that hair may be shaved off without danger of accidental cutting or scratching. The operation is simple and easy and may be performed without watching the implement.

The nut 27 may be unscrewed from the stud 19 and guard plate 23 and blade 22 separated from head 18 for washing and drying. The nut 27 is effectively connected to plate 23 and cannot become separated therefrom and lost.

For compact packaging, sections 12 and 13 are pulled apart and the razor can be carried in a small space within a ladies' overnight bag.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is :—

1. A safety razor having a handle formed of two separable handle sections, interfitting means connecting the meeting ends of the handle sections together, a longitudinally curved cutting head at one end of said handle, said cutting head including a central threaded stud and blade positioning posts extending outwardly from the concave side of said head, a curved guard plate complemental to the shape of the head having post and stud apertures therein, and a nut threaded to said stud adapted to draw the guard plate and head into clamping engagement with a razor blade disposed therebetween, wherein the interfitting means include a socket on one handle section adapted to frictionally retain a tongue on the other handle section.

2. A safety razor according to claim 1, wherein the nut is non-removably and rotatably mounted upon the guard plate.

Dated this 22nd day of November, 1946.
