This invention relates to a combined safety razor and sharpening mechanism.
Among the objects of this invention is the provision of a safety razor including a sharpening device, together with means providing convenient means for turning of the blade, if a double edged blade is used, to present either of its edges to the sharpening device or to the shaving position without removing the blade from its clamping means.
The invention consists in such novel features, arrangements and combinations of parts, as may be shown, described and claimed in connection with the embodiments of the invention herein disclosed by way of example only.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, in which
The invention shown in
The blade
The clamping member
For the purpose of drawing and retaining the blade in operative position, a spring
The aligning pins
When the edge of the blade in shaving position becomes dull the blade may be moved from the operative position shown in
As shown in
The operation of the stems
In the modification shown in
By means of this construction the razor blade may be removed from the razor by removal of the cap
While the invention has been described with respect to certain particular preferred examples which give satisfactory results, it will be understood by those skilled in the art, after understanding the invention, that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and it is intended, therefore, in the appended claims to cover all such changes and modifications.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:—
1. The combination of a handle, a razor head secured to the handle and provided with aligning apertures, a razor blade supporting plate constituting a seat for a razor blade, means for moving said plate toward and away from the razor head, aligning pins carried by said plate and adapted to enter said aligning apertures as the plate is moved toward the head, enlarged portions on said pins resting on the outer face of said plate and constituting means for aligning the razor blade, said pins being provided with annular grooves at their outer ends, and a bayonet slotted outer clamping plate adapted to bear against said razor blade and upon application of pressure to flex said blade to an amount determined by the enlarged portions on said pins, said clamping plate being secured on to said pins by movement in the direction of its length.
2. The combination of a handle, a head secured to said handle, a guard on said head, a razor blade supporting plate constituting a seat for a razor blade, aligning members on said seat projecting inwardly for cooperation with apertures in said head, means for moving said plate toward and away from said head, said aligning pins also projecting outwardly from said seat, a clamping plate, and means for detachably connecting said clamping plate to the outwardly projecting portions of said aligning pins.
3. The combination of a hollow handle, a shoulder within said handle, a razor head secured to said handle, a guard carried by said razor head, a plunger slidable in said handle, means for securing and supporting a razor blade on said plunger for movement into and out of cooperative relation with said guard and for rotational movement of said razor blade with respect to said plunger and about an axis longitudinally of said plunger, a cap nut having a screw threaded connection with said plunger and accessible at the end of a handle, a spring operating on said nut and against the interior shoulder on said handle, and a slot and pin connection between said plunger and said handle for preventing rotation of said plunger.
4. The combination of a hollow handle, a razor head secured thereto, a guard on said head, a razor blade supporting means, a plunger secured to said supporting means and slidable in said handle, spring seats within said handle and on said plunger, a spring seated on said seats for moving the razor blade toward said guard, said seat on said plunger being provided by an adjustable cap nut threaded on said plunger and accessible at the end of the handle, and an adjustment controlling member threaded into the interior of the closed end of said cap, said member being adapted to contact with the end of the plunger as the cap nut is advanced on the plunger to limit the movement of the cap nut to control the maximum pressure that may be applied to the spring.
5. The combination of a handle, a head secured to said handle, a guard on said head, a sharpening roller on said head, razor blade supporting means, means for securing a razor blade to said supporting means, a plunger slidable within said handle, and a ball and socket connection between said plunger and said razor blade supporting means whereby when the plunger is moved to draw the blade inwardly the various portions of the edges of the razor blade will be drawn into contact with the corresponding portions of the guard and roller with substantial uniformity of pressure, and when said plunger is moved outwardly the razor blade may be turned edge for edge.
6. The combination of a hollow handle, a head secured to said handle, a guard on said head, a roller on said head, a razor blade supporting plate, an outer clamping plate for securing a double-edged razor blade on said supporting plate in flexed condition under tension, a plunger extending through said handle and connected to said supporting plate for moving the edges of said razor blade secured to said supporting plate by said clamping plate toward and away from said guard and roller, and spring means cooperating with said handle and plunger for yieldingly holding the edges of said blade against said guard and roller.
7. The combination of a hollow handle, a guard member supported on said handle, a sharpening roller supported on said handle, a hollow plunger slidable in said handle, a razor blade supporting plate carried by the outer end of said plunger, a clamping plate for clamping a razor blade on to said supporting plate, a plunger carrying said clamping plate and extending through said hollow plunger, a spring within said handle, a cap nut adapted to be threaded on said last mentioned plunger and advanced into contact with said hollow plunger to tension a razor blade on said supporting plate and constituting a seat for one end of the spring within said handle, and a seat within said handle for the other end of said spring.
8. The combination of a hollow handle, a guard member supported on said handle, a sharpening roller supported on said handle, a hollow plunger slidable in said handle, a razor blade supporting plate carried by the outer end of said plunger, a clamping plate for clamping a razor blade on to said supporting plate, a plunger carrying said clamping plate and extending through said hollow plunger, a spring within said handle, a cap nut adapted to be threaded on said last mentioned plunger and advanced into contact with said hollow plunger to tension a razor blade on said supporting plate and constituting a seat for one end of the spring within said handle, a seat within said handle for the other end of said spring, and means for limiting the advancing movement of the cap nut.
9. The combination of a handle, a head secured to said handle, a guard on said head, a razor blade supporting plate constituting a seat for a razor blade, aligning members on said seat projecting inwardly for cooperation with apertures in said head, means for moving said seat toward and away from said head, said aligning members also projecting outwardly from said seat to align a razor blade on said seat, a clamping plate provided with apertures receiving said aligning pins for aligning said clamping plate, and means for detachably connecting said clamping plate to said seat.
