SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,336, dated May 3, 1887. Application filed March 16, 1887. Serial No. 231,153. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Peter Wahl, of North Vernon, in the county of Jennings and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Razors, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is designed to provide an improved razor which shall wear uniformly, maintain its shape, and keep a sharp edge; and to this end it consists in a razor having a relatively broad back, a shank of reduced thickness, a concave blade having between its back and its edge a swell or rib for strengthening the thin blade, and rounded ends.

Figure 1 is a side view of the razor. Fig. 2 is a back edge view of the blade; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the blade, showing its position between two stones of my special form of honing-machine, between which stones it is to be reciprocated when it is to be honed.

A represents my improved razor-blade, which is made in one piece, with a broad back, forming straight parallel ribs a a on opposite sides of the blade. The shank b is reduced to about one-third the thickness of this back, and the blade, which is of the concave type, has a rib or swell, c, between the edge and the back, and running parallel with the latter, and the ends of the blade at d are rounded. To hone the razor, it is reciprocated between two stones, as in Fig. 3, the honing being used merely to reduce the thickness of the back without changing the character of the edge, the said reduction of thickness of the back serving only to give the razor a proper angle when placed on the strap for sharpening the edge without wearing the same away by maintaining too great an angle.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is—

A razor made in one piece of metal, with round ends d, broad back forming straight parallel ribs a a, the shank b of less thickness than the back, and a concave blade with a rib or swell, c, between the edge and the ribs a and parallel with the latter, substantially as and for the purpose described.
