SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 731,562, dated June 23, 1903. Application filed December 26, 1901. Serial No. 87,292. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Franz Joseph Halbekann, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Solingen, Rhenish Province, Prussia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Shaving Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in shaving apparatus represented in the accompanying drawings, in which—

Figure 1 shows the apparatus with closed, and Fig. 2 with open, rear stop. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly in section.

The handle a supports a box b with two laterally-fixed jaws f f′, preferably overlapping the blade or so arranged as to firmly grip the edge of the blade and inclined toward each other. The blade e, of a suitable form, is clamped between them and is inclined toward the front. The rear stop of the blade consists of two levers g g′, fulcrumed at h and forced into the position Fig. 1 by a superposed spring i.

d is an adjustable plate in the nature of a guard, having the front edge parallel to the edge of the knife-blade. It can be adjusted by the screw c c′ to expose more or less of the edge of the blade e.

If it is desired to remove the blade e from the apparatus, the levers g g′ are pressed down into the position shown in Fig. 2, and then the blade may be pulled out rearwardly.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is—

1. A shaving apparatus provided with a clamping device for the blade consisting of two laterally-fixed jaws, and a rear stop in the form of spring-actuated levers and which may be withdrawn by turning the levers, substantially as described.

2. A shaving apparatus provided with a clamping device for the blade consisting of two laterally-fixed jaws, and a rear stop in the form of spring-actuated levers which may be withdrawn by turning the levers, in combination with an adjustable plate having its front edge parallel with the edge of the blade, substantially as described.
