To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we,Edward A. Schreiber and Joseph G. Klier, citizens of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Guards; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention is an improved razor-guard; and it consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of our invention is to provide an improved razor-guard which is efficient to prevent the razor from cutting the skin of the user and which may be readily attached to and detached from a razor-blade at will.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved razor-guard. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the same attached to the blade of a razor, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same showing the guard attached to the blade of a razor.

The plate 1, which bears against one side of the razor-blade, is provided at one edge with teeth 2 and is provided at its opposite edge or side with a centrally-disposed upwardly-extending arm 3. Arms 4 are also formed with and extend outwardly from the said plate and are disposed near the ends thereof. The arm 3 is formed with integral lugs 5, which are bent upwardly from the sides thereof. The outer end portions of the arms 4 are bent upwardly at right angles, as at 6, and are provided with screw-threaded openings for the reception of adjusting-screws 7, the points of which bear against the back or rear edge of the razor-blade. In connection with the plate 1 we provide a clamp-clip 8, which is to bear on the side of the razor opposite that which bears against the plate 1, and the said clamp-clip is provided with an outwardly-extending centrally-disposed arm 9, which is formed with integral lugs 10. Said lugs 10 bear against the inner sides of the lugs 5 of the arm 3. A pintle 11 passes through alining openings in the said lugs 5 and 10 and serve, in connection with said lugs, to pivotally connect the lamp-clip 8 to the plate 1. A coiled extensile spring 12 is placed on the said pintle, and its ends bear against the opposing sides of the arms 3 and 9, the function of the said spring being to clamp the razor-blade between the plate 1 and clamp-clip 8, as will be understood, and serves to permit of the ready adjustment of the guard from the blade. The screws 7 enable the clamp to be adjusted laterally with respect to the razor-blade, as may be required.

It will be understood that our improved razor-guard is reversible—that is to say, it may be applied to either side of the blade of a razor—so that it may be used by either the right or left hand.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is—

1. A razor-guard comprising a plate having teeth on one side, adjusting-screws carried by the plate to bear against the rear side of a razor-blade and a spring-pressed clamp-clip pivotally connected to the said plate to clamp a razor-blade between it and the said plate, substantially as described.

2. A razor-guard comprising a plate to bear against one side of a razor-blade, provided at one side with teeth and at the opposite side with outwardly-extending arms; adjusting-screws carried by two of said arms near the ends of said plate to bear against the back of the razor-blade, a clamp-clip having an arm pivotally connected to the other arm of the said plate and a spring between the said arms and normally closing the clamp-clip against the plate, substantially as described.
