To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Frederick H. Arnold, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in safety-razors; and the object of the invention is to provide a novel means of securing the cutting-blade to the guard-plate.

The invention is intended more particularly as an improvement on the device shown and described in my pending application, Serial No. 275,514. In the device referred to I employ two clamping-plates hooked together at their outer ends and held together at their inner ends by means of a handle screwed onto shanks formed on said plates.

In my present device I use but a single plate and provide simple means for securing the blade thereto.

The invention is more fully described in the following specification, and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which—

Figure 1 is a plan view of the device with the blade removed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the complete device. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the blade.

The numeral 1 designates the guard-plate. This plate is formed with the usual teeth along either side, a hook 2 at its outer end, and a reduced portion 4 at its inner end. On the extremity of this reduced portion I form a tapered plug 3. The reduced portion 4 of the plate is formed with two ears 5, directly opposite each other and extending upwardly therefrom. The plug 3 is made with varied outside diameters and is adapted to be engaged by a tubular handle 6 at either of its ends.

The numeral 7 designates a cam. This cam is pivotally mounted between the ears 5.

The numeral 8 designates the cutting-blade. This blade is formed with a recess 9 at its outer end, adapted to engage the hook 2 on the guard-plate, and at its inner end with a narrow extension 10, adapted to lie on the reduced stem portion of the plate beneath the cam. The guard-plate is provided with positioning-lugs 11 and the blade with registering perforations 12.

When it is desired to place the blade in position in the guard, the extension 10 thereof is slid under the cam 7 and its opposite end in engagement with the hook 2. The normal open position of the cam will easily permit the entrance of said extension between it and the stem of the plate. The cam is then swung down to the position shown in Fig. 2, and the blade is securely held in position thereby.

The handle 6 may be removed from the rear end of the plug when the razor is not in use and passed over the guard-plate, incasing it and engaging the reduced diameter at the opposite end of the plug 3.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is—

In a safety-razor the combination of a guard-plate provided with a hook at its outer end, a reduced stem-like portion at its inner end, a tapered plug formed on the extremity of said stem portion, ears formed on said stem portion, a cam pivotally mounted between said ears, positioning-lugs formed on said guard-plate, a blade formed with a recess at its outer end and a reduced portion at its inner end adapted to be clamped to said plate by said cam, a tubular handle adapted to engage either end of said plug while lying on the same plane with said blade.
