To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Leonard Heuser, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Razor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention has for its object to provide a razor with a blade adapted to be detachably secured to a shank, and constructed of thin, flat metal adapted to be readily ground at its edge thereby avoiding the expensive operation of hollowing out the sides of the razor blade by the grinding process, which frequently results in drawing the temper from the blade to a greater or less extent, and preventing razor blades from being tempered in accordance with a uniform standard. Such objects I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings which embody my invention in its preferred form, and in which

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on the line 2—2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a a vertical section taken on the line 3—3 of Fig. 1.

As illustrated in the drawings a shank 1 is applied to a handle 2 by means of a pivot 3, which parts may be of the ordinary well known construction. The shank is provided with a heel 4 having a slotted recess, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, adapted to receive a heel 5 of a blade 6. The back of said blade is fixedly attached to a sleeve 7, preferably angular in cross section, as shown in Fig. 3, and adapted to receive a correspondingly angular stub stem 8 formed in the shank of the razor, so as to prevent torsional movement of the sleeve on the stem thereby preventing any movement of the blade relatively to the shank of the razor. The engagement of the heel 5 of the blade in the slotted recess formed in the heel 4 of the shank is also designed to aid in holding the blade and sleeve firmly together. A stem section 9, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, is detachably secured to the stem 8 by means of a threaded engagement, comprising preferably, a reduced end 10 engaging a threaded socket formed in the adjacent end of the stem 8. The detachable stem section is provided on its outer end with a head 11 whereby said section is readily manipulated to engage the stem 8, or be removed therefrom. By means of such construction, the blade 6 may be made of flat metal drawn to an edge and tempered to the desired extent. The blade is not required to be ground or hollowed out, as is necessary with razor blades of ordinary construction, and there is, therefore, no liability or tendency of the temper of the blade being withdrawn or impaired by such grinding process. The expense necessarily incurred in grinding the razor blade is, moreover, thereby avoided, and consequently the razor itself is made cheaper, than razors of ordinary construction. By means of the construction herein shown and described, moreover, a blade if worn out or broken may be readily detached from the shank of the razor, and a new blade inserted in its stead without the expense necessarily incurred in providing an entirely new razor.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:—

1. A razor comprising a shank provided with a recessed heel, a sectional stem having a stub section, a blade having its heel engaging said recess, a sleeve fixedly attached to the back of said blade and engaging said stem and means for detachably securing said stem and sleeve together.

2. A razor comprising a shank provided with a recessed heel, an angular stub stem, a detachable section having a threaded engagement with said stub stem, and a heel having a slotted recess, a blade having its end engaging the recess of said heel, a sleeve fixedly attached to the back of said blade and engaging said stem, and means for detachably securing said sleeve and stem together.

3. A razor comprising a shank provided with a stem and a heel having a recess formed therein, a blade adapted to engage at its end with the recess, a sleeve attached to the back of said blade engaging said stem, and a stem section having a threaded engagement at its inner end with the stem of said shank.
