To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Franz Josef Halbekann, mechanist, a citizen of the German Empire, and resident of Solingen, 20 Moltke street, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.

In the known safety razors with an interchangeable blade capable of being used on both edges and carried by a toothed protecting plate the position of the blade on the protecting plate is determined by a covering plate connected therewith by screws. Such a securing device for the razor blade makes the interchanging of the same rather difficult. This disadvantage is overcome by the present invention in that in this case the blade is held on the protecting plate by a sliding piece which can be slid under a knob attached to the plate by a lateral slot.

In the accompanying drawing which illustrates one embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a front elevation of the razor. Fig. 2 is an end elevation. Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views.

As shown, the handle a is provided with a short screw-threaded stem b, the reduced end b1 of which is hingedly connected with the hinge-members c by the pivot d. The hinge members c are secured on the lower side of the protecting plate e which is provided in known manner with teeth f at both sides and serves as a carrier for the blade g which is edged on both sides as is usual.

The protecting plate carrying the blade g which is rotatable around the pivot d is secured at a certain inclination to the handle by the nut h guided on the screw-threaded part b. The position of the protecting plate can be inclined to the handle within certain desired limits in known manner and the plate with the blade can be brought from the position shown in Fig. 2 in full lines into the position shown in dotted lines in order to be able to use both edges of the blade.

For securing the blade g on the protecting plate is employed a sliding plate i which is provided with a perforation k having a lateral slot l. The protecting plate itself carries a knob m the diameter of which corresponds to the perforation k so that the slide can be slipped over the knob and then secured by giving it a lateral movement so that the stem of the knob enters the slot, whereby the position of the blade is fixed. Two lateral projections n on the plate c which enter slots o in the sliding piece i serve to determine in known manner the position of the blade on pressing on the protecting plate.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is—

In a safety razor, the combination of a handle, a protecting plate jointed to the handle and having a stud provided with a stem and a head, a blade, a sliding plate for securing the blade on the protecting plate and having a perforation through which the head of the stud can pass and a slot adjacent to said perforation for receiving the stem of the stud, and means for securing the protecting plate at any desired inclination to the handle.
