To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Edward E. Bennett, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blades, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in razors and particularly to improvements in safety razor blades, and the object is first, to provide a razor blade having its corners so formed that they cannot cut or scratch the face of the user, and the object is further to provide a razor blade of permanent concavo-convex form which is so formed that when laid upon a support such as a table, wash stand or the like, the cutting edge of the blade shall be supported out of contact with the table.

In attaining the objects above set forth, I have provided a razor blade provided with a plurality of lugs extending from its cutting edge, said lugs serving not only to prevent the corners of the blade from cutting or scratching the face of the user and preventing injury to the cutting edge when laid down, but these lugs may be employed, if desired, as a means of connecting the blade to a holder.

My invention consists essentially in a rigid inflexible razor blade of permanent concavo-convex form provided with a plurality of lugs extending from its cutting edge, as described in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a razor blade embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2—2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3—3 of Fig. 1.

Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

In the drawings, referring now to Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, 10 is a blade of concavo-convex form having a plurality of cutting edges 11 which in this instance are four in number, said blade being provided with four surfaces 12 which in this instance are convexly curved in one direction only. The blade 10 is preferably formed of thin sheet steel which may be of uniform thickness throughout, the thickness of the blade, however, being great enough so that it is entirely inflexible. The blade may be formed of a single seamless piece pressed or stamped in the desired form. The form of the blade is such as to lend it increased rigidity so that when in use it is absolutely rigid and vibrationless. The blade 10 may be provided with a hole 13 which may serve to conveniently attach the blade to a handle or holder. The blade is provided with lugs 14 on its corners, said lugs projecting downwardly below the plane of the cutting edges so that said blade when laid down with its convex side uppermost rests upon said lugs and said lugs not only act to prevent injury to the cutting edges when so laid upon the support, but they also make it possible to pick up the blades readily with the fingers. The blade just described, owing to the fact that it is rigid and inflexible, can be tempered extremely hard so as to give the best results in cutting. The lugs 14 also serve the purpose of preventing the coiners of the blade from scratching or cutting the face of the user.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire by Letters Patent to seeure is:

As an article of manufacture, a rigid inflexible razor blade of permanent concavo-convex form provided with a cutting edge and having a plurality of lugs extending beyond said cutting edge.
