Disclaimer
This is a work in progress!
This classification is obviously inspired by Howard Hazelcorn's work. His classification is missing (very few) models and his descriptions could be more detailed and methodical.
I miss information about the teeth, blade stops and the number of rivets at the back of the head as well as every patent listed on the head, not only the last one. I also like pictures and lots of them. I have based my information on the 2nd and 3rd editions of his book.
There is still a lot of information missing as I don't have access to all Kampfe Star models. If you have (very detailed) images of a Star razor I don't have images of, or not every patent listed, please let me know .
KAMPFE STAR RAZORS
The following table contains information to identify a Kampfe Star razor.
The columns and their meaning (move mouse over images to zoom in):
Model — The model in Hazelcorn's classification — if known. Click on the model to get a more detailed description of the razor.
Year — The earliest year this razor could have been made. Mainly based on patent and award dates found on the razor's head.
Head — is the head open or closed at the front. Open heads are always hinged at the back .
Adjustment — where are the blade adjustment screws or is there a spring clip instead
Top — is the top of the razor head fixed or hinged at the back
Pierced — what is pierced into the top of the razor
Teeth — Number and arrangement of teeth on the guard.
Stops — Wether the razor has blade stops ( ) or not ( ).
Models with 11 teeth don't have blade stops.
Models with 13 teeth (11+2) have blade stops on the two outermost teeth.
Models with 12 teeth (6×2 Y) have blade stops on the frame.
Stars — most models have two stars pierced at the bottom front of the frame, some don't
Rivets — The number of rivets visible at the back of the frame. Don't confuse rear adjustment screws with rivets.
Front / Back — Text and symbols embossed on the head (except patent and award lists).
Move the mouse over the numbers in the ‘Front’ and ‘Back’ columns to reveal the text or refer to the legend below the table.
